White-Spunner Completes Placement of Linear Accelerator Vault at Infirmary Health’s new 95,000-square-foot Medical Office Building and Ambulatory Surgery Center

Exciting progress is underway at Infirmary Health’s new 95,000-square-foot Medical Office Building and Ambulatory Surgery Center!

Our team recently completed one of the project’s most complex milestones — placing the linear accelerator vault, a highly specialized space that will house equipment used for radiation therapy to treat cancer.

The vault’s walls are up to 7 feet 6 inches thick, with floors up to 6 feet thick, requiring a carefully engineered concrete mix and precise temperature control during curing. To manage the heat generated during placement, the team used a custom mix incorporating fly ash and specialized aggregates, and cooled the concrete with chilled water, ice, and liquid nitrogen. Sensors monitored temperatures throughout the process, while thermal blankets and wet curing methods maintained optimal heat and moisture during the first week. This meticulous approach ensured the concrete cured evenly and safely, providing long-term strength and protecting patients and staff for years to come.

This milestone reflects the high level of planning, craftsmanship, and technical expertise that specialized healthcare construction demands. We’re proud to partner with Infirmary Health to deliver world-class facilities that will serve patients across the Gulf Coast for years to come.
