TO WHITE-SPUNNER CONSTRUCTION’S
2024 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

White-Spunner Construction provides scholarship opportunities to the children of employees who have worked with the company for a year or more.

Since the scholarship program’s inception in the fall of 2000, White-Spunner has awarded financial gifts to students pursuing a college education - seeking out those who strive for academic achievement and character development, and those who have demonstrated leadership qualities and devotion to community service.

White-Spunner Construction is pleased to announce its twenty-third annual scholarship recipients.

Aaliyah Alexander

Alabama A&M University


Aaliyah Alexander is finishing up her junior year at Alabama A&M University studying English with a concentration in secondary education. In her freshman year at Alabama A&M, Aaliyah earned the title of President of the AAMU English Club and was inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success. She is also a member of the honors program and hopes to become proficient in Spanish. After completing her undergraduate studies, Aaliyah hopes to pursue a career in law. This is her third year to be awarded the WSC scholarship.

Aaliyah is the daughter of Brandee Alexander. Brandee is the drywall division’s project coordinator and has been with White-Spunner Construction for nearly four years.

Lindsey Busby is a sophomore at the University of South Alabama studying physiology and kinesiology. She is a member of the Dean’s list and has a 3.6 GPA. In high school, Lindsey was a member of the soccer team, culinary club and hospitality and tourism club. For the last two years, she has run her family’s small business. After graduating from USA, Lindsey hopes to earn a graduate degree and become a physical therapist. This is Lindsey’s first year to receive the WSC scholarship.

Lindsey is the daughter of Jennifer Busby. Jennifer is the company’s human resource manager and has been with White-Spunner Construction for nearly 2 years.

McKinley Fuller is finishing up her freshman year at the University of Alabama, where she majors in biology and minors in psychology. McKinley is an active member of her sorority, serving on the standards committee and dance team, in addition to participating in fundraising activities. She is also in the Mentor Club, Leadership Club and Worship Club. McKinley has a 3.5 GPA. After completing her undergraduate studies, McKinley hopes to attend pharmacy school.

McKinley is the stepdaughter of Tabitha Fuller. Tabitha is the drywall department’s administrative manager and has been with White-Spunner Construction for more than four years.

Jacob Holland is finishing up his freshman year at the University of South Alabama studying information systems. This year, Jacob earned a 3.6 GPA and earned a spot on the Dean’s List. This year, Jacob plans to add a minor in cyber security, potentially earning a certificate for it. He would also like to join clubs on campus that focus on his major. This is Jacob’s second year to receive the WSC scholarship.

Jacob is the son of Amy Holland. Amy is the company’s executive assistant and has been with White-Spunner Construction for 25 years.

Ben Miller will begin his junior year at the University of Alabama at Birmingham this fall. He studies computer science and with a minor in STEM education through the UAB Teach program. Ben would like to add a minor in history as well. Ben has a 3.92 GPA and enjoys participating in the jiu-jitzu and film clubs. He also spends time volunteering for the United Way BCS tutoring program. This is Ben’s second year to receive the WSC scholarship.

Ben is the son of Philip Miller. Philip is a project executive and has been with White-Spunner Construction for more than 14 years collectively since 2003.

University of Alabama at Birmingham

Hartley Thornburg is set to graduate from Mary G. Montgomery High School, with a rank of fifth among the 421 students in her graduating class. Hartley has been extremely involved throughout her high school career, playing both varsity basketball and soccer and being an active member in Future Farmers of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and Key Club. In addition to her participation in these clubs, Hartley was honored with the Red Ribbon Leadership Award and Viking of the Week while also winning Reserved Grand Champion in the 4-H County Hog Show, first place in Showmanship and second place in her hog’s weight class. This year, she was awarded the Young Woman Community Leadership scholarship. After high school, Hartley will attend the University of South Alabama and major in biology. She hopes to continue her education at Auburn University and earn a degree in large animal veterinarian science. This is Hartley’s first year to receive the WSC scholarship.
