The Grand Hotel
Project Overview
The Grand Hotel is a jewel on Mobile Bay. For over a century, visitors have flocked to the Eastern Shore to enjoy the first-class amenities of this resort hotel in an incomparable waterfront setting. Originally constructed in 1847, the hotel has survived natural disasters including hurricanes, floods and a fire. It has also endured a few man-made disasters. During the Civil War, it was used as an army hospital for Confederate soldiers. Its rich legacy is part of what makes the hotel such a valuable and enduring piece of the area’s history. Consequently, it also created a challenge for WSC when it came to renovating the existing hotel. Due to the age of the building, no blueprints were available, causing the design team to recreate items. The company was hired as part of a larger renovations project to redesign the kitchen, Bucky’s Birdcage Lounge, the grand dining room, lobby and the ballroom. The hotel remained open during the entire renovation process.
