Storm-Resilient FEMA Shelters Protecting Mississippi Communities

WSC constructed three FEMA shelters for the Jackson County Board of Supervisors in Mississippi. Each shelter spans 10,000 square feet and was built to meet FEMA’s stringent 361 guidelines for tornado and hurricane shelters and can withstand 200-mph winds. Each building includes an insulated concrete form (ICF) structure, intermediate structural steel, FEMA 361 doors, interior CMU partitions, full-service kitchens, stand-alone utilities and independent fire protection systems. The shelters are located in Hurley, Vancleave and St. Martin, Mississippi.
