In under two years, White-Spunner Construction completed a full-service student recreation center in September 2010. The facility spans 117,000 square feet and includes various amenities such as four basketball courts, an indoor soccer area, a 1/10-mile elevated indoor running track, a multi-level rock climbing wall, aerobic rooms, racquetball courts, weight rooms, indoor and outdoor pools and separate cardio, spinning, free weight and multi-purpose rooms. The center also houses a full-service smoothie and snack bar, a table tennis area, men’s and women’s saunas, locker rooms, showers, and dressing areas. One of the most distinctive features of the center is the true “Domed Ellipse” that covers the free weight area. The ellipse was constructed using exposed heavy laminated wood trusses decked with structural tongue and groove cypress.
