Restoring History with Modern Precision
White-Spunner Construction was contracted in 2014 by RSA to conduct a historical restoration of the 100+ year old, 11-story Van Antwerp Building in downtown Mobile. This project centered on preserving the building’s character by refurbishing the entrance canopy, restoring the original terracotta exterior and strengthening the structural steel cornice framing. To ensure long-term durability and authenticity, we replicated the terracotta exterior with glass fiber-reinforced concrete (GFRC). Amidst the downtown setting, we prioritized safety and minimal disruption, employing open road construction, offsite material storage and containment measures for construction debris.
