Co-Friendly Parking Deck Built for the Future

In just one year, White-Spunner Construction completed a 2-story parking deck for the City of Bay St. Louis, MS, laying the groundwork and creating space for a future civic center on the building’s third floor. The 31,680 sf concrete and steel structure consists of 100 spaces in the garage, 22 on the surface and features solar panels and power backup. The garage is a Net Zero energy project, meaning it generates as much power as it uses. Other special features include a plastic underground rainwater collection tank for irrigation purposes and “Green Screen” panels to create a living wall where plants will grow along wire panels. Numerous challenges were met in building this structure, including the removal of existing jail facilities and foundation, unknown site conditions, tight working space, heavy rebar structure construction, and various design changes; however, the project was completed on schedule and within the City’s budget.
