Mobile Museum of Art

Project Overview

For construction of the Mobile Museum of Art, The City of Mobile chose to work with a construction manager who could meet the unique needs of what would be the city’s newest showplace. The biggest challenge for this project was to incorporate the museum’s two existing buildings into the new facility, both of which were on different elevations. It would have been easier to demolish both; however, the museum saved costs by keeping the two existing buildings and developing a transitional gallery between them. Building materials created another challenge as they were chosen for cost and durability but required a long lead time. The 95,000 square-foot project was completed on time and within budget in 2002, resulting in an elegant facility for the city of Mobile and its visitors.
